Anaysah bint Zayd ibn Arqam narrated from her father (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (ﷺ) visited Zayd 1 to check on him during an illness he had. He said, “There is no harm in your illness, but what will you do if I am commanded after me and you go blind?” He said, “I will seek reward and be patient.” He said, “Then you will enter Paradise without reckoning.” She said, “He went blind after the Prophet (ﷺ) returned to his Lord, then 2 Allah restored his sight, then he departed from this world.”

[Narrated by Al-Bayhaqi in Dala’il al-Nubuwwah]

Commentary and footnotes (5)

Note 1

visited Zayd

(1) His statement: visited Zayd: Meaning himself, either in abstraction, by way of rhetorical shift, or due to the narrator’s wording. (As stated in Al-Mirqat)

Note 2

then Allah restored his sight

(2) His statement: then Allah restored his sight: Perhaps Allah did not mention restoring his sight to increase the hardship of his patience and the reward tied to it, then he achieved victory with patience. (As stated in Al-Mirqat)

Note 1

Note 2
