Nor the garlands
(1) "Nor the garlands": This establishes the legitimacy of garlanding sacrificial animals by Quran and Sunnah. (Al-Jawharah al-Nayyirah)
For you therein is good
(2) "For you therein is good": This indicates the permissibility of riding sacrificial camels, as the "good" includes riding and milking. ('Umdat al-Qari)
When lined up
(3) "When lined up": The strongest evidence for slaughtering while standing is this verse, interpreted by Ibn Abbas as "standing on three legs" (left foreleg tied). Abu Dawud authentically reported this. (Al-Maraqi)
When they are [lifeless]
(4) "When they are [lifeless]": The Prophet (ﷺ) slaughtered while standing to comply with this verse's apparent meaning, as "lifelessness" is most evident in this position. (Fath al-Qadir)

Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prayed Zuhr at Dhul-Hulayfah, then called for his she-camel. He marked it on the right side of its hump, wiped away the blood, garlanded it with two sandals, mounted it, and when it stood upright at al-Bayda', he commenced the Talbiyah for Hajj." [Narrated by Muslim]
In the agreed-upon narration from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): "I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) combining Hajj and Umrah in his Talbiyah: 'Labbayka Umratan wa Hajjan (Here I am for Umrah and Hajj)."
In Abu Ya'la's version from Ibn Abbas: "The Prophet (ﷺ) marked his sacrificial camels on their left side and wiped the blood with his finger."
(1) "His she-camel": This implies sheep are not garlanded, as it wasn't customary. Al-Shafi'i disagreed based on Aisha's narration about garlanding sheep. Our response: The Prophet (ﷺ) abandoned this later practice. ('Umdat al-Qari)
Note 2
(2) Marking (Ish'ar): Al-Shafi'i considered it recommended, while Abu Hanifah disliked it (though Hasan and Abu Yusuf permitted it). The fatwa follows the latter view. Al-Tahawi clarified Abu Hanifah only disliked excessive marking that might harm the animal. (Fath al-Qadir, Bahr al-Ra'iq)
Note 3
(3) Right side of hump: There's a difference between narrations about marking left vs. right. Ibn Umar consistently marked the left, suggesting he knew the Prophet's (ﷺ) practice. The reconciliation is that both sides were used at different times. (Bazl al-Majhud, Fath al-Qadir)
(4) Talbiyah: The Prophet (ﷺ) combined Hajj and Umrah in his Talbiyah, as recorded in Sahihayn. Single mentions in other narrations are either abbreviated or context-specific. (Al-Maraqi)
Note 5
(5) Left side marking: Muhammad (al-Shaybani) held this as the preferred position, except for paired camels where right-side marking is permitted if access is difficult.

Nafi' narrated from Abdullah ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): "When sending sacrificial animals from Medina, he would garland and mark them at Dhul-Hulayfah - garlanding before marking, while facing the Qiblah. He garlanded them with two sandals and marked the left side. The animals would proceed with him to Arafah and Mina, where he slaughtered them on Eid morning before haircutting. He slaughtered them himself while they stood, facing the Qiblah, then ate and distributed the meat."
Nafi' narrated: "Ibn Umar would mark camels on the left side unless they were paired and unapproachable, in which case he marked the right. He faced them toward the Qiblah during marking, saying 'Bismillah, Allahu Akbar,' and slaughtered them while standing."

(1) Seven per camel: This supports the majority view (including Hanafis) that seven may share a camel or cow if all intend worship (e.g., Hajj or Udhiyah).
